Distributor Kicks Off Program

By Minda Morgan

BFS' Quality Statement
Business Forms Specialty Inc. drafted the following quality statement to explain the firm's quality program.

Business Forms Specialty Inc. is committed to quality.
We will strive to deliver competitive products and services with zero defects in a timely manner.
Our relationship with our customers and suppliers will be one of partners working to attain this objective.

We, as employees of Business Forms Specialty Inc., pledge our total commitment to these standards.

More than 40 people, including 26 key vendors, attended Business Forms Specialty Presentation in May, the culmination of five months of preparation and implementation of the firm's quality policy.

By the end of the day, eight vendors had signed key vendor agreements. More vendors are reviewing the agreement, says Alan Sutton, CDP, quality manager and systems consultant of BFS, a Hampton, Va., distributorship.

The presentation was designed to introduce attendees to the quality standards of the firm. The program began with BFS's own video production, "Anatomy of a Screw-up," a humorous depiction of the before and after effects of quality implementation. Ted Wills of Philip Corsby Associates addressed the group concerning the "unquality circle." Then Sutton outlines the three costs of non-conformance to standards. Barbara Bliley, CFC, vice president of BPS, introduced the Preferred Vendor Concept, an agreement between BFS and its suppliers designed to reduce errors and increase quality. She outlined the responsibilities and benefits to each party. David Bliley, president, presented awards to all vendors present in appreciation of their quality, service and professionalism. Twenty-three vendors have signed the agreement. Many of the features of the policy were learned from CBI, a distributorship in Schaumburg, Ill., that implemented a quality program three years ago.
