Moore, Champion Settle
Patent Infringement Case

IMR, March 30, 1998

LAKE FOREST, Ill.-Moore U.S.A. Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Moore Corp. Ltd., reached a settlement in its patent infringement case against Champion Business Forms Inc., a manufacturer in Glendale Heights, Ill. Moore had filed the claim Dec. 30 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, contending that Champion was infringing upon two of its patents: U.S. Patent No. 4,918,128, a pressure sensitive adhesive used in pressure seal mailers; and U.S. Patent No. 5,253,798, a pressure seal adhesive pattern designed for IBM 3800 printers and used for pressure seal mailers.

"We have resolved our differences," said Michael Barrett, director of public affairs for Moore. "The parties have agreed that the patents are valid and infringed." Details of the settlement were unknown at press time. Roger Swenson, president of Champion, confirmed that the case was settled, but said his attorneys advised him not to comment until the final written court order is released.

The IMR has learned that Moore filed similar complaints of patent infringement against The Standard Register Company and The Reynolds and Reynolds Company.
