Avery Dennison First-Quarter Results Slide
Adhesive product and label maker Avery Dennison Corp., Pasadena, Calif., announced on Tuesday its first-quarter earnings fell more than 9 percent compared with first-quarter 2000. Firms See Greater Potential in Bar Codes
Two Japanese companies are modifying a two-dimensional bar code system, originally designed to aid blind and partially sighted people and capable of holding 800-word messages. The companies say the stamp-sized bar codes can be affixed to articles and advertisements in magazines for consumers to scan and get extra information, either in text or sound. Click here for more.
Correction
Last week DMIA's e-Newsletter reported the wrong figure for Four51's second
round of financing. The correct figure is $1.45 million. We regret the error.

Start Your Message in the Subject Line
People decide whether to delete an email message based on who it's from and what's in the subject line. Instead of summarizing the content of the message in your subject line, try starting your message there and then continuing in the message box.
For example, an editor recently sent me a message with the following subject line, "I like your ideas, but we have a teensy problem..."

DISTRIBUTOR INTERVIEW
|
|
Wanted: Ad Specialties
By Rita Tiefert, FORM Assistant Editor
If you're like a lot of distributors, you've tried to break into the ad specialties market by joining an ad specialty association. Unfortunately, those organizations want proof that you've already sold a large amount of promotional products. There’s a loophole, however: Distributors often can meet membership requirements by selling products in crossover categories, such as plastic bags, presentation folders, labels, plastic cards, binders and Post-it® notes.
According to Mary Jensen, product manager for ad specialties at distributorship Print Technologies & Services, based in Carol Stream, Ill., most distributors have probably already worked with 10 Advertising Specialty Institute (ASI) member manufacturers “just by the nature of their business.” Click here for more.
