Strategy for Growth? Document Management
Companies that focus on how documents and information
are managed are better equipped to reduce costs, respond
more quickly to changing market conditions and increase
profits, according to a study released by Xerox. In
fact, 68 percent of the 550 U.S. executives interviewed
for the survey, conducted by IDC, said that effective
document management initiatives are driving competitive
innovation, profits and revenues. Key findings:
* Almost two-thirds of survey respondents have initiatives
in place to reduce the total cost of document management.
On average, those respondents expect to achieve a 20
percent reduction in costs.
* While knowledge workers (the economy's highest
paid workers) spend 20 percent of their day looking
for information in documents, about 50 percent of that
time workers cannot find what they're looking for.
* Survey respondents (66 percent) agreed that effective
document management drives customer service. More than
half of the information that companies share with or
send to their customers is in the form of paper documents,
but more than 60 percent of respondents have not successfully
integrated hardcopy documents into their digital workflow.

<http://www.officemax.com> OfficeMax Chief
Executive Ousted
OfficeMax Inc., Itasca, Ill., said that Chief Executive
Christopher Milliken is out of a job and it will restate
earnings for the first three quarters of fiscal 2004
amid an ongoing investigation of accounting issues.
Additionally, the company lowered sharply its operating
income forecasts for the full year to a range of $125
million to $135 million. That, in effect, implies that
OfficeMax "earned almost nothing" in the fourth
quarter, UBS analyst Gary Balter wrote in a research
note. In December, OfficeMax disclosed that it was scrutinizing
claims by a vendor that certain employees falsified
documents for about $3.3 million in bills during 2003
and 2004. OfficeMax said the claims are true and that
six people have been fired. <http://www.marketwatch.com/news/yhoo/story.asp?source=blq/yhoo&siteid=yhoo&dist=yhoo&guid=%7BC1FDE658%2D5551%2D4E25%2DBDD2%2DFB5A2889C181%7D>

<http://www.cenveo.com> Cenveo Reports 4Q Loss
Cenveo Inc., Englewood, Colo., reported a quarterly
loss, despite increased sales, of $3.6 million, or 8
cents per share, compared to last year's profit of $2.5
million, or 5 cents per share. Sales rose to $481.7
million from $424.3 million a year earlier. Cenveo President
and CEO Paul Reilly said "margins continued to
be tight" in the fourth quarter, which led to its
loss. He said the company was taking "measures
to mitigate the situation." The company announced
Jan. 7 that Reilly intends to resign from the company,
but will remain as president and CEO to assist in the
transition to his successor.
