Best of the Bunch
Many manufacturers didn't break open the champagne in fiscal 2000, but there's plenty of pop left among those who made FORM's fourth annual Top 100 Manufacturers list. Nineteen companies on this year's list increased sales by 20 percent or more (up from 10 firms last year and eight in '98), and the cutoff for inclusion rose to $6.7 million (up from $5.9 million last year and $5 million in '98).As we crunched the numbers over the past four years, three trends became clear: The top 20 firms now generate a significantly higher percentage of the list's sales total; manufacturers that specialize in labels, tags and/or commercial printing were most likely to grow; and there's plenty of room on the FORM 100 for new faces. (See graphs and stats below.)
Numbers can be interesting, surprising and telling. We invite you to look at the ones shaping the industry's largest manufacturers.

Last year, the top 10 manufacturers of labels and tags had combined sales of $198.5 million from those products. This year, the segment's top 10 producers sold $342.5 million.
40 companies on this year's FORM 100 were not on the list four years ago.
